Creating my First User Interface

Some years back I saw UI designers as magical creatures who sprinkle mysterious Design dust over any wireframe and make it shine. So after 2 years working as a Graphic designer I decided that i want to learn UI design.

So how do you learn UI design?

Quitting my job to study a UI design course was not an option, So I googled how to learn UI design in my free time.

And google gave me Material Design.
Material design
is a comprehensive guide for visual, motion, and interaction design across platforms and devices. Google has an amazing documentation about material design here which every aspiring UI designer should read.

(Psst! - UI design is not only about Material design but I believe it's a good starting point)

So you got an idea of what do you want to Design. What next?

After reading all about MD and referring Design sites like Google Design, Dribbble, Uplabs, I finally sketched a wireframe for a checkout screen.

sorry for the bad drawing :D

Creating the User Interface

The main challenge I faced was figuring out which document size to design my screens. I have asked many people and all of them gave me different screen sizes. So decided to do it in 800X600.

The best thing to do while designing for Android phone app’s is to design for the smallest screen. I use 360X640 px for designing Android mobile screens. You can later export this to 2X, 3X, 4X sizes if you want.
